Thalle's safety program is already a leader in the construction industry, but most of our focus over the last few years has been on improving the safety of our employees on the jobsite. Due to the wide geographic range we cover, many Thalle employees spend a lot of time behind the wheel, and we decided it was time to add driver training to the areas we emphasize. Not only does this improve the safety of our employees when they travel from one jobsite to another, but it also improves the safety of the traveling public with whom we share the road.
"Our vehicle accident rate is already one of the best in the business," said Ken Thomas, Thalle's Corporate Safety Director. "So we didn't decide to do this to address a problem. We wanted to do this to make sure it stays that way."

Fortunately,
Chartis Insurance was available to help. Mike Payne, a Senior Loss Control Consultant who works for Chartis and covers the North Carolina region, is certified to teach the
National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course. Chartis provided the instructor and the materials, and Thalle provided the students. In the future, all Thalle employees who drive a company vehicle on public roads will be required to pass the NSC course every 3 years.
"We want to thank Chartis for their help in putting this together," said Gregg Pacchiana, President and CEO of Thalle. "Mike's a great instructor, and I think all of us really got a lot out of the training."
