Thalle Construction Company takes great pride in our safety program, which we feel serves as both a benefit to our clients and an example to others in our industry.

The Thalle Safety Program is built on a holistic approach to construction safety, placing emphasis on coaching, guidance, and partnership; as well as rigorous inspections and enforcement. We feel the most successful method for achieving lasting safety performance lies in maintaining strong personal relationships with our people in the field, conducting extensive training to show people the right way to do things, and then constantly checking to make certain they are being done that way.
We believe in being Problem Solvers, not Problem Finders. We believe in fully utilizing the natural innovative capacity of the American construction worker. We believe that people and behavior are the keys to safe projects. We expect a high standard, we correct errors, and we recognize success. We believe that the employee in the field must be supplied with the knowledge, information, and equipment to make smart decisions on their own, and we emphasize good planning, preparation and training to make sure that happens.
The success of our approach is demonstrated by the numbers. Thalle's current EMR is .86 and dropping, our TRIR is 2.2, which is almost half the current average for our industrial classification, and one third the rate of the American construction industry as a whole. Our OSHA citation record is spotless in spite of numerous inspections. We have performed projects for some of the most demanding clients in the world, including major utilities, Federal government entities, and numerous municipalities, and all have rated our safety performance as outstanding.
At Thalle Construction, our motto is "Everybody Goes Home", and we spare no expense and no effort to make certain that happens on every project, every day.

Ken Thomas is the Corporate Safety Director of Thalle Construction Company. Ken is a veteran of the US Army Infantry, and started his construction career over 22 years ago as an ironworker building bridges over the Kanawha River in West Virginia. From there he moved on to shoveling asphalt, laying pipe, operating heavy equipment, and was working as a foreman on a utility crew when his employer decided to have him teach a CPR class. He's been a full-time safety professional ever since - having been involved with every type of construction from interstate highway projects, office towers, massive datacenters, and shopping malls to locks and dams. For the last 16 years Ken has dedicated his career to protecting the worker in the field, and finding innovative, effective and efficient solutions to safety problems.

Mark Raynor is the Field Safety Manager of Thalle Construction Company. Mark is a North Carolina native with over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, starting as an engineer and quality control expert, and making the transition to full-time safety 8 years ago. Mark is a demanding and meticulous inspector, and runs Thalle's internal program of formal inspections, Thalle's safety incentive program, and serves as a mentor to Thalle's Project Safety Representatives. Thalle's spotless OSHA compliance record is largely a result of Mark's efforts.
Every Thalle jobsite is assigned a Project Safety Representative, who is responsible for weekly inspections, interfacing with the company Safety Department, new hire orientation, field training, and safety documentation. Depending on the size, hazards involved, and needs of our clients, the Project Safety Rep may share other jobs such as Project Engineer or Quality Control, but it is often a full-time position. All Thalle Project Safety Reps carry the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification, and many are OSHA 500 certified.
